The Abayudaya - Jewish Zionists in Rural Uganda!

You heard right!

This is one of the most inspiring stories of our time. It is a story that takes place in rural Uganda, in Putti village, where 160 people have been practicing Judaism for nearly four generations.

The organizations, Putti Village Assistance Organization as well as The Committee To Save Ugandan Jewry are working to gain them an Orthodox giur (if needed) and economic self sufficiency. Their ultimate goal? To resettle in the Land of Israel and join the Jewish People.

You have to check out this amazing story: The Jews Of Uganda

While it is an interesting story, there is also a problem here. American reform "Rabbis" are all over this and are teaching these people their own way. If the Orthodox keep ignoring this it will be lost.

You do a lot of damage when you spread false information like that. You are completely wrong and you shouldn't malign an entire community without knowing the facts.

In point of fact, the community in Putti Village consists of 160 Jews who practice strict Orthodox Judaism. Of course the entire response rests on the assumption that you have the right to judge them. But even ignoring that, by any standard they are complying with halahchah. The Chief Rabbi of South Africa as well as dayanim from Israel are involved in their community and no one involved with Putti Village is Reform. Get your facts straight.

There ARE people who identify with the Jewish People in Uganda who are working with the CONSERVATIVE movement (not the reform) through an organization called Kulanu, however they live in the other villages, and are NOT in any way associated with the Jews in Putti Village. Frankly, you owe them an apology for speaking lashon harah.

    B"H

There is an organization that for about thirty years has been searching for and helping lost communities of Jews all over the world.

They work with the Israeli Rabbinate, they are the ones who have gotten approval for the Bnai Menashe community to come to Israel (in spite of the leftist or post-Zionists continuing attempts to block Aliyah from these types of communities in recent years. Shitreet even declared that he didn't want to know about any more of the "lost tribes" for he would not admit them)

    This organization is
    http://www.shavei.org/

Anyone wanting to help communities of this sort should go to Shavei and make the shiduch-connection. These communities should be given attention by Rabbis who can arrange halachic conversions or re-conversions depending on the circumstances.

There are a few other hidden Jewish communities in Africa, including the Lemba in South Africa.

    Shalom Anonymous,

What you say is true, and Shavei is a great organization helping some majestic communities. We have reached out to them. Unfortunately they are tapped out and have told us they can not aid us at this time. If you would like to be involved however you should check out our website and help us out - we have a lot of projects underway!
